On the 27th of January, the concessionary company Ruta del Canal (Chile) with 80% Iridium participation, closed the financing on the public works concession contract for the financing, expansion, improvement, conservation and operation of Route 5, from Puerto Montt to Pargua in La Región de los Lagos (Chile), with an estimated investment of 4.4 million of UF (approximately 144 million Euros).

Both local and international banks took part in the financing: BBVA, Banco Bice, Banco Estado, Banco Itaú and Corpbanca. The closed debt amount came to 3.2 million UF (104 million Euros).

The 55-kilometre long motorway is located 1,050 kilometres south of Santiago and connects Puerto Montt to the access for Isla de Chiloé, a tourist resort. The project includes the financing, construction and operation as a direct-toll motorway for a maximum period of forty years.
