 03/28/2014 Awarding of Lima Subway (Peru)

Iridium has been awarded the Lima Subway Line 2 concession for 35 years, together with a branch of Line 4 that will reach the airport for the amount of 3,620 million Euros, with a 35-year concession period.

The consortium participated by Iridium has obtained the contract for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the Lima Subway Line 2, together with a branch of Line 4 that will reach the airport, for the amount of 3,620 million Euros. The forecast period for the construction stage is five years, after which operation will commence for thirty years.

The successful consortium bidding for the tender (called the Nuevo Metro de Lima) is being led by Grupo ACS subsidiaries Iridium and Dragados and by FCC, through its subsidiary Vialia, the local company Cosapi and the Italian companies Impregilo and Ansaldo. The latter will be responsible for the installation of the electromechanical systems and the rolling stock. Furthermore, Metro de Madrid will be participating as project adviser.

The project, awarded today, consist of the construction of 35 underground metro stations connected along 35 kilometers of tunnels. Over 3,000 professionals will be employed on the works. The choice of an underground transport system will mean a lesser impact on city life, together with a true urban transformation because much of the land on the surface where the metro runs will be converted into green belts.

Line 2 will be almost 27 kilometers long and will cover the east-west axis in Lima from Ate to Callao, where FCC is also executing conditioning works in the nearby port. Once in operation, the associated 27 passenger stations will provide service to over 600,000 persons a day, allowing savings of up to 90 minutes along the route. It currently takes some two hours and twenty minutes to cover this distance by car.

The Line 4 branch, which will connect Lima to the airport, will run through eight kilometers of tunnel from Faucett to Néstor Gambetta avenues. Eight stations will be constructed along this route.

Moreover, the contract includes the execution of the superstructure, the rolling stock supplies, the installation of electromechanical equipment and electricity supplies required for metro operation.
