The Barcelona Metro, with 47.8 km long and 52 stations, is the longest automated line in Europe and runs through dense urban and suburban sections of Barcelona. Part of a multi-phased program, the contract included the design, construction, finance, maintenance, and rehabilitation of Line 9, Sections 2 and 4 (Sagrera-Badalona-Santa Coloma), which included a 18.7-km rail corridor, 15.9 km of underground and 2.7 km of elevated railway, and 28 stations. The 19,200-m2 maintenance storage facility, built in the elevated section of the line, is a two-story building with a complete track system. The driverless transit system is a key element of the public transport network in Barcelona and is expected to carry nearly 100 million passengers a year.
